frequently asked questions

Do I throw as part of a team?
Axe throwing is an individual sport played with and against other members of a group.

How long does it last?
Open Throw sessions last 1 hour while Private Group events last 2.5 hours. Open Throw sessions and Private Group Events must be booked in advance.

Will you teach me how to do it safely?!
All of our axe throwing activities start with safety instructions and 1-on-1 throwing practice, led by our fully trained coaches in a throwing area.

What happens during the Private Group event?
Once you’ve sharpened your skills, we’ll kick off a round robin tournament followed by final knockout round to award an axe throwing champion. Our coaches will take care of all scoring and smooth flow of the tournament so you can relax and enjoy the sport.

What is the best number of people to come with?
Open Throw sessions are intended for individuals, couples and small groups up to 6 people. Our Private Group events are ideally played with 12 or more people, although we can accommodate smaller groups. 6 is the minimum number of players for our tournaments to work well. For groups larger than 24 people please contact us to schedule.

Do you have any food or drinks for sale?
Stump House is a fully licensed facility that serves a wide variety of beers, wines, mead, and appetizers. We highly recommend our Palmetto Cheese Board! It is a date night favorite and a perfect finger food.

How it works

Axe throwing is an individual sport played in a group setting. Therefore, forming teams is not necessary. If you had a team in mind, you, your friends and/or colleagues should each sign up individually to take part in the league on the same night of the week. You’ll all get to throw together but also with and against other league members.

Over the first 7 weeks, you will play 4 matches each week against other league members to determine who will make the playoffs in week 8. Each match consists of three rounds of 5 throws (so 15 axes total per match). During week 8, the top 16 competitors will compete in a double-elimination tournament to determine the league winner. Each year, our league winners will be eligible to compete in our Champion of Champions event.

What else should I know:

Stump House has Axes available for sale IATF-compliant axes for $25 each plus tax. You can use one of general pool of axes but isn’t it much more fun to have your own axe? You’re in an axe throwing league! We have sourced what we consider to be the best throwing axes available that are used across Canada where the sport originated.

If you want to bring your own axe, it must have a wooden handle and be between 1.25 and 1.75 lbs to be eligible. Reach out to our staff for more league information and to sign up!
